XP Park Pulse: 55% of direct app bookings in June 2026 were made within 30 days of the stay.

We talk a lot in this industry about the shift toward shorter breaks and last-minute bookings. It shows up in every market report, every operator survey, every conference panel. But talking about a trend and seeing it in your own booking data are two very different things.
So, this month, we’re sharing something concrete.
Looking at rebooking activity across anonymised UK holiday parks using Holidaymaker during June 2026, the picture is striking – and it has real implications for how parks should be thinking about availability, communication and revenue strategy right now.
These are direct bookings – no OTA commission, no third-party intermediary. Revenue that went straight to the park.
But the number that really tells the story is this one:
55% of bookings landed inside 30 days of the stay date
Rebookings in action - 55% of bookings booked and taken within 30 days
More than half of all bookings made through the Holidaymaker app in June were made within 30 days of arrival. Breaking it down further:
The median lead time across all bookings was just 21 days.
Most guests aren’t planning far ahead. The data shows short, spontaneous decisions, made on the channel that’s most convenient at the moment they decide.
This isn’t a surprise if you’ve been watching broader market trends. Household budgets remain under pressure. Hybrid working has made last-minute trips more feasible. Guests are taking more, shorter breaks rather than fewer, longer ones, and they’re making decisions much closer to the wire.
What’s significant here is that these aren’t cold, unknown guests stumbling onto a park for the first time. These are returning guests, already familiar with a property, making a spontaneous decision to come back – and doing it through the app rather than going back to an OTA.
That’s the late-availability guest in action. Spontaneous, short-notice, and booking through a direct channel.
The sector has historically struggled to reach this guest efficiently. Most parks’ availability marketing leans on OTAs or generic email blasts sent to an entire database. Neither approach is well-suited to capturing someone who decides on a Wednesday that they want to go away that weekend.
A three-week decision, from start to finish
Here’s the honest challenge: if 55% of your potential direct rebookings are happening inside a 30-day window, your marketing infrastructure needs to be able to respond at that pace. That means:
Real-time push notifications to guests who’ve stayed before. Not a fortnightly email newsletter. A targeted, timely push to a guest who stayed in a specific accommodation type, sent when that accommodation type has availability in the next two weeks. That’s the difference between a relevant offer and noise.
Short-notice availability that’s visible in the app. If a guest opens the app on a Thursday and can see that their favourite lodge or touring pitch is available that weekend at a competitive price, the booking friction is minimal. If they must leave the app to check the website, the moment is often lost.
Guest segmentation that makes targeting possible. Sending a last-minute lodge availability offer to a glamping guest isn’t just ineffective – it trains guests to ignore your messages. Knowing who stayed where, when, and what they spent is the foundation of last-minute marketing that actually converts.
A rebooking journey that requires no effort. At 21 days median lead time, guests are not in research mode. They’ve already decided they want to go – the only question is whether your park makes it easy enough to book. A frictionless in-app rebooking journey, with saved preferences and a familiar interface, removes the barriers that cause last-minute interest to evaporate.
With the wider market showing higher availability and more competitive pricing than in recent seasons, the parks that will fill their shoulder-season gaps most effectively won’t be the ones with the deepest discounts. They will be the ones with the most responsive direct communication infrastructure.
The late-availability guest is already in your database. They have stayed with you before, they liked it enough that they’re open to coming back, and they are making decisions on a three-week horizon.
The question is whether you have the tools to reach them at the right moment – and a journey that converts when you do.
