Supporting Shelter in the mission for a home for all

Shelter is the housing and homelessness charity, helping people impacted by the housing emergency through advice, legal services and campaigning for a fairer housing future. Their work supports people facing homelessness or unsafe housing today, while pushing for the long-term changes needed so that everyone has a safe, secure place to call home.

Housing pressure is increasingly visible across the communities hospitality businesses operate within. Rising rents, a shortage of affordable homes and insecure housing are affecting families, individuals and workers across the UK, particularly in seasonal, coastal and rural areas. These pressures are no longer separate from hospitality. They shape who can live locally, who can work locally, and how sustainable local economies can be.

The decision to support Shelter in 2026 is rooted in a belief that a resilient hospitality sector depends on stable, supported communities, and that businesses have a role to play alongside charities, councils and local services.

Shelter has already contributed to the XP Community through speaking at two previous XP Hospitality events. Representatives from Shelter joined XP Hospitality Dorset in October 2025 and XP Hospitality Norfolk in December 2025, sharing grounded insight into the housing emergency and its real-world impact on people and places. These sessions helped connect policy, lived experience and the operational realities faced by hospitality businesses across the UK.

In 2026, Shelter will be a key charity presence at XP Hospitality Beverley Holidays, with Hannah Vischer, Shelter’s new South West Fundraising Manager, joining the event. Hannah will contribute to conversations around how organisations and communities can support people experiencing homelessness in ways that are practical, ethical and locally grounded.

Shelter’s approach aligns closely with the values of the XP Community. Their work is practical, evidence-led and rooted in lived experience. They do not offer simple answers to complex problems, but focus instead on meaningful support, responsible action and long-term change.

Through this support, Holidaymaker aims to help raise awareness of the housing emergency, encourage informed involvement across the hospitality sector, and contribute to work that supports people facing some of the most difficult circumstances in the UK today.
